Your Privacy Settings
- Visible just for me
- Visible for my buddies
- Visible for my buddies and their buddies
- Visible for everybody

Your Privacy Settings do have impact on two different spheres
A - What do other users see of your Profile?
When using SEARCH ARTIST-INFO USERS on My Home-page, the Search Result, dis-played in yellow section on your 'My Home'-page, shows some of user's profile details and activities.
The whole range is (*some depend on your user group and advance status) the visibility of Your Favorites / Your Buddies / Your 'What's on Your Mind' messages / Your Exhibition History* / Your Exhibition Announcements* / Your Artwork Offers* / Your Artwork Requests*.
The verbal meaning of the different settings explains their function regarding visibility.
B - Who receives your 'What's on Your Mind' messages
The different setting's verbal meaning explains the range who your 'What's on Your Mind' messages do reach.
However, with Visible for everybody they reach the buddies of your buddies and not every body of artist-info platform, thus being equivalent to Visible for my buddies and their buddies.

With MY FAVORITES, MY BUDDIES, MY MESSAGES and 'What's on your mind' feature you can build a powerful network which helps you to find new contacts by reach-ing out to the buddies of your buddies who might have similar interests as your buddies. Stay up-to-date with your Favorites. You receive an email update message if they add new exhibition information or add text or image / video to their artist portfolio, etc.

artist-info database is the second sphere and a powerful backbone of artists and ex-hibition places and their exhibitions around the world.
artist-info database is the source of all artist-info Public pages.
The possibility to get connected by editor to artist-info database in case of matching identity has many advantages for a member of any of the user groups of artists, cura-tors, galleries, museums, non-profit places and collectors.

One advantage is to manage and update Exhibition History, publish Offers and Re-quests, publish Exhibition Announcements and in cases of an artist an Artist Portfolio, in case of an artist or curator to submit Add-Exhibition-Requests.

The other very valuable advantage is: When searching and discovering other users of artist-info community, in case they are connected, their search result will show in the yellow section on your 'My Home'-page, not only the found users community profile with her or his Favorites and Buddies.
It displays as well their professional profile with the content of their artist-info Public page, including Artwork Offers and Requests, Exhibition Announcements, Exhibition History in artist-info database and, in case of an artist the indication that an artist portfolio may be available on her or his Public artist-info page.

COMMUNITY - GET CONNECTED

Overview
The available user groups Artist, Curator, Gallery, Museum, Non-Profit Place, and Collector represent important groups of people working in the field of contemporary art.
Private user group is important as well but has not the professional perspectives regarding the contemporary art world and market as the other user groups in artist-info.com

artist-info did start as a documentary and research source in the beginning 90s showing who exhibits where.
The exhibition history of both, the artist as well as the exhibition place stands for an idea, a concept or a perspective which becomes the clearer the more details this history unveils. Therefore exhibition places play an important role, too.
It is not possible, that artist-info lists ALL contemporary artists and ALL contemporary art exhibition places. It always will be a selection.

In our years long experience one aspect became very clear: To communicate and to build up a network is very important in the world of contemporary art. To do this with the support of artist-info's large database on artists, curators and exhibition places is an important advantage.

For this reason artist-info offers to its registered users a 'What's on your mind' feature to send status messages as text or with an image to your buddies and, depending on your privacy settings, to the buddies of your buddies.
As your buddies might know your work as an artist, a curator or an exhibition place, the buddies of your buddies might not. Like this the use of 'What's on your mind' reaches out to contacts you might have hardly reached before.

VISUALIZATION

Visualizing the World of Contemporary Art as a Network
It is a new perspective and insight for the world of contemporary art which was never available be-fore, worldwide.

How are artists and exhibition places and curators connected among each other, respecting their different approach and positioning?

It might have random aspects but on an upper level the bits and pieces summarize to network structures and clusters. We are offering the visualization of these networks as a new service.
Cross-linking all exhibition information in our database enables us to understand the world of contemporary art with the artists, curators and exhibition places as many networks besides one another. The reasons the members of these networks were connected among each other are their individual vision, and their concept, to show the artist's work under known or new conditions.
The questioning of the available data under various aspects leads to an exciting output of relations for an artist, curator, or venue. The human eye is able to explore and interpret visual sources like a network graph in much greater depth than it would be possible with lists and tables.
It needs the specific data and complex mathematical models to visualize with a network graph the relations of all who are part of the network and their multiple connections among each other, under the condition of a number of chosen attributes.

The shown network graph is not dynamically generated using the continuous growth of available information. It has to be built anew after a certain period to include new exhibition data.

How are artists, curators, and exhibition places connected among each other?
Some are part of a large network, some not. Who else could become part of it?
The cross-linked exhibition history information in artist-info.com is used to visualize these relations with a network graph. The results are many co-existing networks and clusters. These visualizations are providing new insight into the world of contemporary art in a way tables or lists are not able to provide.

Source for the network visualization
The shown network graph is based on information in artist-info.com database. Each visualization is build individually and not the result of an automated process. The specific queries are summarizing all exhibition information without filtering any details, for example a specific scope of years, or city.

5 Different Schemes
artist-info.com offers for a specific artist, curator, or exhibition place (gallery, museum, non-profit place, collector, or other venue) as the CENTRAL node the following points of view for visualizing their network
Each scheme shows how the CENTRAL node and the members of the network are connected among each other.
- For artists two schemes: ARTIST-artists, and ARTIIST-exhibition places. Example page for an  Artist
- For curators one scheme: CURATOR-artists.
Example page for a  Curator
- For exhibition places (gallery, museum, non-profit place, or collector)
two schemes: VENUE-artists, and VENUES-venues.
Example page for a  Gallery
Each scheme has its own sub-URL and is displayed in an individual browser tab or window.

Propagations / Recommendations
Furthermore, the visualized results of our queries include propagations /
recommendations for possible new connections.
These nodes are not directly connected with the central node but with one of its members. They are based on the statistic evaluation of highest number of exhibitions together with the specific member and are shown as 'outsider' nodes with a single line near the edge of the displayed visualization.

Navigate Visualization Window
Individual browser window
artist-info.com network visualization is available as individual sub-URL to be displayed in its own browser tab or window.
To be able to explore the network graph with all its details, the user can zoom in with buttons at the bottom of the browser window. Zooming in will show the node's names.
Each node can be clicked in the network graph and the right side pane to filter its relations in connection with the central node.

Navigation
Any member with its individual sub-cluster can be selected by clicking a node in the network graph or in the list of network members in the right side pane.

Side Panes
Each individual selection of a cluster can be searched for member's names with the search window at left.
In the right side pane more details of network members are shown. At top a link to the artist-info page opens this member's artist-info page with its exhibition history and other details.
Second information is about available Exhibition announcements or Artwork Offers. Then the member's available community pages on Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, or YouTube are displayed.
At the bottom a list with all members of the network allows to select each sub cluster by selecting one name.

Layout characteristics
The network graph's layout elements like color, the distance between nodes, or
diameter of nodes is used to interpret specific attributes related to a node. These are for example the number of connections to other nodes, the number of exhibitions
together with the central node to which the whole network graph is related.

As part of a propagation / recommendation scheme our database queries include as well results which are not directly related to the central node. They are 'outsiders' in the network schemes (not available in ARTIST-artists scheme), and displayed as nodes on the outer edge of the network graph with only one line (edge) as relation..
